To make this cute dress for your 18 inch doll, simply add one inch to the hem of your Playtime Peasant Top bodice. Cut an additional piece of fabric 3 inches x 30 inches for the ruffle and press it the long way with wrong sides together.

Complete the entire pattern as directed until you get to the hem. You can add the ruffle before or after your sew the 2nd side seam, it’s up to you. Gather the ruffle and with right sides together, attach it to the hem of your dress. Top stitch from the right side of the dress, with the seam allowance towards the dress.

Cut 10 inches of FOLD OVER ELASTIC. Sew the ends together, and use this as a belt. (It also works as a headband!).

Hi Kat!Love this, SO SEW cute!! Very glad to see there’s an Animator version! Question to be sure I’m understanding the hack…it’s ONLY the blouse piece, not the skirt? And the total length adjustment (on AG dolls, I realize it might differ for Animators) is 1″ added to the blouse bottom, PLUS the 3″ ruffle? So only 4″ total added to the bottom of the blouse for AG? Since you found the bandana fabric in red AND blue, it’d be cute to do a ruffled slip/underskirt in the other color, so you’d get two layers of ruffles! Happy Solstice!Lisa Kemp

Hi Lisa! I love your idea of the ruffled underskirt! I’m going to try that. Yes, for this dress, I used JUST the bodice top piece, added 1 inch to the hem. The ruffle is 3 inches, but when you press it in half, it’s only 1.5 inches, so the total added length is 2 inches added after seam allowances. Looking at the animator size, I would try the same thing. Add one inch to the top, then make a finished ruffle of 1 1/2 inches. There is another version, with the longer ruffles on the tutorials page- purple dress with yellow waistband. Use the Playtime Peasant Top and then add the bottom two ruffles of the Playtime Twirl Skirt for a different look.
