For a long, long time, I always passed by the batik sections of my favorite fabric stores. My mother, on the other hand, used more batiks than any other fabrics in all of her quilts. When she passed away, I picked through her collection and came home with some very pretty pieces of fabric. I also purchase batiks online at the Fat Quarter Shop (Like these from the Batik Club AD: Batik Clubs).
This rosy batik looked so different each time I used it. I think I’ve made four different items. These two were both made from the School Bell Blouse pattern. Grace is wearing the top, and Kendall is wearing the Dress Hack. Both have added crystals instead of buttons for some extra shine.
There are so many pretty batiks in bright fall colors and with leaf pattern designs.
These fall batiks had lots of swirling colors- each item made from it can take on a completely different look. Both dresses (photo above and below) were made with the Sugar N Spice Dress for 18 inch dolls. See more info in THIS POST.
Try a few fabrics from the batik section of your fabric store or at the Fat Quarter Shop at this AD: LINK and make the magic happen in your doll clothes sewing too!

Use the Oh Sew Kat! School Bell Blouse PDF Sewing pattern to make cute, floral feedsack dresses for the Depression era American Girl® dolls, Kit and Ruthie.
Easy Feedsack 1930s Dresses for 18 inch Dolls like Kit and Ruthie
The School Bell Blouse is a simple pattern with a few special details. It’s designed to make two different styles of cotton blouses. In THIS TUTORIAL, I explain how easy it is to make the blouse into a cute dress!! Choose vintage 30s fabric or soft florals to give your dress a 30s vibe.
Add a few buttons, crystals, or even a tab of fabric at the neckline!
It’s easy to add a collar or neck tab to your feedsack dress. Looking through pinterest, it seems geometrics were popular and pretty much anything goes. I just cut mine free hand and sewed it around the edge, flipped it and pressed it. I added some topstitching and basted it in place before sewing the dress to the lining. You could also try lace, ribbon or trims. Just remember to add an extra 1/4th inch to the top for the seam allowance.
Kat’s Tip: If the tab doesn’t lay flat after pressing your dress, you can top stitch over it, or add a little bit of iron on hem tape underneath to tack it down to the dress.

Oh Sew Kat! currently offers 24 patterns and bundles for the 16 inch Animators’ dolls produced by Disney®. Disney® keeps us on our toes, as all the animators are not the exact same size…and the new toddler and my first princess doll lines have the same wide eyes that were once tell tale signs of the Animators’ line. Some of my patterns do fit the smaller toddler dolls- I’ve had success with the 14.5 inch size patterns for the one doll I’ve tried.
These Animators’ patterns are all designed for the 16 inch dolls, sold in Disney stores and Disney’s online store, with an average cost of $25 each. My sweet Rapunzel recently had a haircut. Her long locks are true to character, but were just always in the way as I’m dressing and undressing and taking photos. I think the new style suits her!!
