Add a ruffled neckline to your Playtime Peasant Top for Dolls

With Oh Sew Kat! pdf sewing patterns, it’s SEW easy to take a basic skirt or dress pattern, and step it up with a cute ruffle at the hem. This is also a great trick for any time a dress or skirt turns out shorter than you’d like it to be.
Add a lace or ruffled hem to your Doll Dresses and Skirts
Use lace as a ruffle! Gathered lace is absolutely the easiest way to add a pretty hem to your skirt or dress. Attach the lace when you create the hem, so the ends will be finished in with the back edges for a clean look. Look for lace in different colors for even more options!
Another easy way to add a ruffle is to purchase trim that is already gathered. This polka dot trim was quickly added to the Sixth Grade Skirt with almost no work at all! It looks so sweet! Find more information on how to do this in THIS POST.
It’s easy to add a ruffled hem to a peasant style doll top Dress
Nicki’s dress was made using the Playtime Peasant Top. I cut the top as usual, but instead of hemming it, I added a small ruffle. Read more, and see more photos in THIS POST.
Adding a fabric ruffle is also very simple. Figure out how wide you want the ruffle when it’s done (usually 3/4th to 1 1/4th inch depending on doll size.) You can also shorten the skirt by this same length to keep the finished length the same- but sometimes a ruffle is the perfect solution if a doll skirt ends up too short for your liking.
Double this number and add 1/2 inch for your seam allowances. This will be your WIDTH. Cut the length one and a half to two times as long as the skirt. The longer the length, the more ruffled your hem will be. Fold your fabric with wrong sides together the long way and press. This pressed side becomes your bottom hem. Gather the raw edges and attach to the hem of your skirt with right sides together. Easy peasy, right?
Any skirt or dress can have a ruffled hem. Be creative and mix and match your fabrics. Visit the Inspiration Gallery for even more ideas! Download and sew these easy sewing patterns from Oh Sew Kat! for your dolls today!
Oh wow, have you seen these new dolls by Battat / Our Generation? The Glitter Girls, as seen in this post, have had a makeover! The little girls in your life will love being able to pose these dolls (their arms and legs bend!) and they still fit the same doll clothes as the wellie wishers dolls. So how do the Glitter Girls compare to the Wellie Wishers dolls?
As you can see below, the dolls are very nearly the exact same size.
Glitter Girls and Wellie Wishers™ can share the same clothes and sewing patterns.
I purchased two of these cuties, but only opened Lacy for now. Eline is still in her box in case I need her for a gift or raffle this fall. There are ten different dolls and even more outfits and accessories to choose from. See them on Amazon here. They have bright, cheery eyes, and warm smiles. They just look like they are having fun! The original Glitter Girls, as I posted about HERE, didn’t have the same whimsical look to them. I think these new girls will have much more appeal to the target audience, which says ages 3 and up. Both the old and new Glitter Girls have amazing, soft hair!!
New Glitter Girls dolls are the same size as Wellie Wishers™ made by American Girl®.
These dolls have a hard body, but they have softer limbs. You can feel the wires inside they vinyl that bend to let them pose. At first, it’s a little off putting – feeling a little rubbery, but as you work the doll a bit, and learn a little more how she works, I think the play value is very high! I did have a more difficult time getting these new girls to stand on their own, than either the old style or wellie wishers, but that’s because they hold their weight a little differently and just need to be adjusted a little more.
Their shoes are plastic, and the clothing is very trendy, although a bit light to the touch. But that is okay, your new doll will soon be dressed in Oh Sew Kat! fashions anyways, like Lacy in the Bloomer Buddies dresses above. 😀
And here’s Lacy in the fall batik Sugar n Spice dress from this post. Even the shoes I bought for my wellie wishers fit these dolls.
Find new friends for your Wellie Wishers™ dolls with new Glitter Girls found at Amazon and Target.
With a low price point of $20 and availability on Amazon and in select Target stores, these dolls are sure to be on every girls’ holiday gift list. The hardest question is, “Which one will she choose?” I still love the American Girl® line and all that it stands for, but I have to say that these dolls and their accessories from Our Generation® are hard to beat for the price, especially because every little girl knows that having more than one doll is a lot more fun!

Brand new from Our Generation Dolls: Introducing the Glitter Girls! This post has affiliate links. We just love the Wellie Wishers dolls here at Oh Sew Kat! The smiles, the freckles, the sparkling eyes. But now, there are new dolls to join in the fun! Here is Bluebell, a 14.5 inch Glitter Girls doll from Our Generation being sold at Amazon and Target. And now, you can find the newest Glitter Girls dolls that can be posed- yep, their arms and legs bend! See THIS post for more on those new dolls.
New 14.5 inch dolls: Glitter Girls from our Generation
Bluebell is one of five different dolls. She has long brown hair and bright blue eyes. Her cute outfit is pink and silver with a big JO JO style bow. Her hair is super soft, full and shiny!!
Glitter Girls and Wellie Wishers dolls both fit 14.5 inch doll clothes.
Bluebell fits perfectly into the WellieWishers Party Time Dress because she is the exact same size! Yep, you read that right. Same size!! But get this. She’s only $19.99! Check out her and her other glittering sisters HERE.
These dolls have pretty much an identical body as the Wellie Wishers by American Girl®. They are also 14.5 inches tall and have the same size feet so they can share shoes, and clothes! These dolls sell at Target and on Amazon for $19.99. There are accessories, clothes, and play sets too! With that price tag, they are hard to resist as playmates for the Wellie Wishers, or all on their own. Here are the two I bought, still in their pretty purple boxes. Fifer is the blonde, and I purchased her to make a raffle basket for my daughter’s dance school, so I have not taken her out of the box just yet. So much pink! Little girls will love them!
Glitter Girls vs Wellie Wishers Dolls- a new doll review
Each doll comes with a complete outfit plus shoes. (No undies). It took a bit to cut them free from the boxes, and the clothes, hair, and bow were held down with a stitch, but overall, it was an easy release and the quality is really good! They are sturdy dolls ready for play!
Fifer’s eyes are a very pretty shade of green. Very unique. I think these girls have a little “older” look than the Wellies.
The back of the hair has a nice “pigtail” part. Well done!!
Overall, I give these pretty, new dolls an A+ for quality and value. You can’t beat the price to give your little girl a few new doll friends at a third of the price of a Wellie Wisher by American Girl®. They will also be great for gift baskets and birthday presents. You can use all your favorite Oh Sew Kat! sewing patterns to make the Glitter Girls an entire wardrobe of clothes as well. Win win! What do you think of the Glitter Girls? Will they join your doll family?
The Glitter Girls will fit in ALL Oh Sew Kat! 14.5 inch Doll Clothes Sewing Patterns.
