What cute outfits are you making for your dolls? Today I’m sharing a favorite outfit I made recently with some nautical fabric I’ve been saving for “just the right” project. It looks perfect on Kit with her bright blue eyes!
Use the Backyard Bibs PDF sewing pattern to make your own amazing outfit for your 18 inch doll.
This outfit is super quick to make. The Backyard Bibs Overalls/Skirtalls has attached straps and an easy hook and look tape closure. With a lined bodice, it’s quick to make without using a lot of fabric, plus with four options included (2 skirt versions and 2 pants versions) it’s a great value too. Put a matching peasant top underneath. The Playtime Peasant Top includes both long and short sleeves to create just the look you want in a very short amount of time. Find the patterns in 5 sizes in my ETSY SHOP. You can find the Backyard Bibs alone or bundled with the Playtime Peasant Top.
Oh Sew Kat! offers a wide variety of easy to sew PDF digital sewing patterns. After you make your purchase, you can print your pattern pieces on your home printer, and get started sewing right away. Find more bibs and peasant tops HERE and HERE. Read more about OSK PDF patterns in the FAQ.

Grace’s poinsettia bibs (above) bring a fun PINK color to the holiday season. I used it with the Playtime Peasant top pattern- you can find the 2 bundle value here. Perfect for warmer climates or add a cozy sweater and some furry boots! Nicki’s aqua snowman bibs are from the same fabric collection (Merry Merry Snow Days by Moda). I used striped bias tape to add more interest and she’s wearing it over a Jumping Jack turtleneck shirt (made with the lower collar option.) . Find the patterns HERE.
Make a quick and easy Easy Up! jumper in fun holiday fabric. Make it Reversible!
I love this pattern! I made a dress for my daughter a long time ago and this pattern is the result. See the full post here. The Easy Up! pattern looks complicated, but it’s really very simple. With a full front and front contrast straps and hem kick pleat, it’s the perfect pattern for your awesome and fun holiday fabrics.
I used a cute, gingham bias tape for the hem on this jumper. I didn’t, but it would be cute to use the same trim for the straps too. Have fun mixing and matching your fun fabrics. Go outside your box! Fabric is called SNOW GLOBE by Moda.
Your doll will be ready for the holidays and beyond with an adorable Jumping Jack 3 in1 Jumper Set.
The Jumping Jack pattern is probably the biggest Oh Sew Kat! sleeper pattern. It consists of three pieces, a long sleeve, turtleneck shirt, a pair of wide leg shots, and a reversible “front and back” apron style jumper that makes the complete outfit look like a cute dress. This pattern is based on a 1974 design. See more HERE. With three unique pieces, you will certainly want to add it to your pattern collection whether you use it as a set or for its individual pieces . Check out the turtleneck shirts I featured in THIS POST.
Sewing Tip- any time I make a reversible outfit for the winter holidays, I often make the reverse in Valentine fabric. This santa jumper has red and pink hearts on the reverse.
Holiday outfits for dolls? Yes, please. Try the Bloomer Buddies sewing pattern for so many options!
Bloomer Buddies is a very versatile pattern. With three lengths for the top (top, tunic, dress) and three lengths for the bloomers (shortie, knee, capri), you can make it with out without sleeves for even more options. Choose classic Christmas colors (See more photos HERE) or make it with long sleeves (directions in THIS POST). Use this pattern to make nightgowns and pajamas too!! (See THIS POST and THIS ONE.)
Every sewing pattern is just the starting point. Once you have a bodice and a skirt, you can make a dress that fits your dream.

See more ideas for the halter top and capri pattern here and here…it’s available sized for 5 different dolls from 14-18 inches tall. Michele used a contrasting fabric inside her sleeves and added fun bows down the front of the placket.
For this amazing outfit, Michele used both the Spring Shine skirt and top measurements, and layered them together for a double layer skirt. You can also make the longer skirt as a stand alone piece for even more mix and match options.
Anna’s double layer skirt has a layer of tulle as well. Love her spider hair pieces!! These are some lucky little princess dolls, aren’t they? The Spring Shine Dress or Top is a fairly quick sewing project, so you’ll have time (and fabric!) to make one for every princess doll in your house.

Make a quick headband or belt accessory for your 18″ Doll with this easy tutorial.
Have you used fold over elastic before? Don’t you just love it? With so many colors and designs to choose from, it’s a go to trim for doll clothes, especially tees, panties, and swimsuits. The edges don’t ravel, and when folded in half along its center line, it makes a nice border trim for your project that is so easy to use. It’s featured in my Simple Sweet Tee pattern as an easy way to handle knit fabric edges for beginners.
Make a quick and easy doll headband and belt with fold over elastic.
Fold over elastic, available in colors and patterns, is the perfect, easy to use trim for doll clothes. Try it on hems and necklines, as belts, headbands, and straps! I use fold over elastic on a lot of different types of doll outfits as you can see below. I use it often as straps for the Easy Up Jumper or the Backyard Bibs to speed up my cutting and sewing and still offer a nice part of the design element.
The gray striped straps on this (below) bunny jumper is actually fold over elastic, (not folded) and because the Easy UP! Jumper straps are elastic anyways, using FOE is a great shortcut without sacrificing style! Click HERE to see more photos of this dress and to find a direct link to purchase the pattern.
Make an 18 inch doll headband in less than 10 minutes:
The greatest use I’ve found for FOE (Fold over elastic) is a quick and easy headband for your doll. The best news is that it also fits as a belt, so it’s a perfect two for one project that will take 10 minutes or less! Because it’s elastic, it’s easy to put on and take off the doll, yet still stays snugly to the doll’s head and waist. Use different widths, colors, and patterns, and add flowers, buckles, or fun buttons. You will find fold over elastic is also very inexpensive!
Doll Headband (Belt) Tutorial:
Choose your FOE (fold over elastic)- find it in your local craft store, on etsy, or even Amazon like this assortment: AD: FOE ON AMAZON. I like 5/8th inch wide, which is a pretty easy to find size.
Cut your elastic to 10 1/2 inches for an 18 inch doll or for Bitty Baby. For Wellie Wishers and Glitter Girls use 8 inches. For other size dolls, measure the size of their heads, and also their waist. Use the average of the two measurements, because the elastic will stretch. Try it before you sew if you are unsure.
If you want to add any sort of a slide buckle, put that on now, ensuring the front of the buckle and the front of the elastic are facing the same direction.
Over lap your elastic ends by 1/2 inch, being sure the elastic is not twisted. Stitch over the lapped edges, by forming a square, then sew an X in the middle. This will keep it nice and secure.
Leave it plain or decorate your elastic with a flower or button and put it on your doll as a headband or a belt! Make them in every color!
Easy doll accessories to make- Headband and Belt Elastic Craft
The elastic I used for Nicki’s belt below, already had the sparkly stones on it, so it’s not technically fold over elastic, but it’s about the same width and certainly works the same way. Can’t find any that sparkle? Use some strong glue and add your own sparkle! See the tutorial to make this Playtime Peasant dress HERE.
Follow these simple steps to make your own Fold Over Elastic headbands and belts for all of your dolls. You will love having a small basket of these easy accessories ready to go as you mix and match new doll outfits.
The Simple Sweet Tee pattern was designed around using fold over elastic to create a pretty contrast trimmed edge on the neckline, sleeves, and hem, but it also makes sewing knits a little easier for beginners to learn. Find the pattern HERE.
